For the past two weeks I have been\u00a0so busy posting\u00a0images of the latest\u00a0stitched piece that I completely forgot to show you the original sketch. \u00a0It would have made much more sense to insert it last week<\/a> rather than the quick waterbrush drawing\u00a0of Quinn, but the happy result of\u00a0my absent minded\u00a0oversight is it made\u00a0figuring out what to write\u00a0this week much easier!<\/p>\n

I\u00a0feel like there is still\u00a0plenty to learn\u00a0by drawing this white cup and saucer, so I’m planning to keep at it. And\u00a0while you may feel like you’re experiencing\u00a0d\u00e9j\u00e0 vu, these three\u00a0sketches really are\u00a0different from any that I’ve posted before. I would like to read about\u00a0Georgio Morandi<\/a>\u00a0as I’m sure I could learn a lot from his work and ideas. Looking for suggestions, I found an extensive monograph\u00a0on Amazon with the subtitle Nothing is More Abstract than Reality<\/strong><\/em><\/a>. The title in itself is enough to pull me in, but the library will be a more viable option.\u00a0However, if you’ve read a worthwhile biography on Morandi, I would greatly appreciate your\u00a0recommendation. \u00a0You can either leave a comment or email me privately.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, I found two quotes from Edgar Degas<\/a>\u00a0that ring especially true with what these sketches are helping me to discover:<\/p>\n

One must do the same subject over again ten times, a hundred times. In art nothing must resemble an accident, not even movement.<\/em><\/p>\n

The fascinating thing is not to show the source of light, but the effect of light.<\/em><\/p>\n
