I
have been sewing and making art, albeit separately, most of my life.
My creative endeavors followed many circuitous twists and
turns
before I found my way to textile collage and brought these two
disciplines together into one
My
previous work with
pastels, watercolor, and graphic design provided
avenues of exploration in color, technique, and an innate love of order
and arrangement. Travel to Asia and time spent living in San
Francisco
and Hawaii proved to be years of fascinating cultural and artistic
exposure that expanded my horizons way beyond my New England upbringing
and education. Fortuitously, becoming an expectant mother led
me
back to sewing and the subsequent discovery of "art quilts".
My work has appeared in
galleries throughout the country and is included in numerous private
collections. I currently live in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. |

My
work is a window to the joys, struggles and perplexities of everyday
life. I strive to understand the personal impact these issues
have on me, while embracing their universal qualities.
Abstraction, through the exploration of shape, color, and
texture, allows me to examine this universality.
Fiber is visually
appealing and, because of its tactile nature, lends emotional intimacy
to my textile collages. Layering various mediums, textures,
weights, and sheens adds dimension through fluctuating saturation of
color and interplay of light. Surprises arise when these diverse
materials are juxtaposed during the creative process - suprises I
welcome and that enrich the evolution of the artwork.
I employ a multitude of
processes such as embroidery, heat transfer of my oil pastel drawings,
and quilting by hand and machine in order to create depth and physical
presence within each piece. My aim is that the eye will vacillate
between the surface treatment of the picture plane and the molding of
an image within it, thus creating a dialogue that enhances the
interaction between the emotional and the intellectual emphasis of my
work.
